The Bucklebury Alsbury's

This family are recorded in the Bucklebury area of Berkshire from the early C19 onwards. Whilst the parish of Bucklebury has one of the finest early sets of parish registers in the country from 1538 onwards, the poor quality of spelling at earlier dates and the presence in the area of the 'Albury' families make it difficult to trace back earlier without corroborating evidence.

I have managed to trace back, with useful help from Roy Alsbury, from the surviving branches of this family and they appear to descend from William Alsbury (ca 1768 - 1852) and Thomas Alsbury (whose first wife was born ca1765 and who remarried in 1806), who we surmise may have been brothers ??

William and his family lived on Bliss Green - Super Common and he and his sons were poor agricultural labourers according to census records. This William's great-great-grandson William Thomas Alsbury was W/O 977330 with 156 Sqdn of the R.A.F. in World War II and was killed whilst flying over Germany in 1944.
